Dredger
The defining feature of a dredging excavator/backhoe dredger is the hydraulic excavator typically mounted on a rotating platform known as a turntable or barge. This excavator is equipped with a large bucket or clamshell that can be lowered into the water to collect sediment and debris. The versatility of the excavator allows it to handle various material types, from loose silt to compacted soil and even rocks.
In addition to the hydraulic excavator, backhoe dredger may also include auxiliary equipment such as pumps, pipelines, and dredging heads. These components facilitate the suction and removal of dredged materials from the excavation site to a designated disposal area or barge.
Backhoe Dredgers are designed to operate effectively in shallow waters and confined spaces. Depending on the vessel's design, the dredged material can be stored in a hold on the vessel or directly transferred to split hoppers or waste sites.
Backhoe dredgers play a crucial role in marine construction projects, including the installation of underwater pipelines, cables, foundations for bridges and offshore structures, as well as land reclamation projects.
