Star Refinery Terrace 3 Region (SPE) Construction Works Project

Additional site preparation works for the Star Refinery, which operates at a capacity of 10 million tons of crude oil annually over approximately 2,300 acres at the Petkim Peninsula, were carried out by ES Denizcilik. This project involved expansion works across an area of 345,000 m².

Key Project Activities:

Excavation: 3,522,488 m³ of rock excavation.

Filling: 1,045,000 m³ of fill (0-60 mm).

Gabion Walls: 26,570 m² of gabion wall construction for slope protection.

Soil Nail Walls: 92,548 m of soil-nail wall installations.

Foundation Work: 45,325 m³ of reinforced concrete foundations for tanks and pipe bridges.

Concrete Paving: 125,560 m² of site concrete and 35,000 m² of road concrete.

Steel Infrastructure: 1,715 tons of steel piping work and 54,800 m² of road concrete surfacing.

HDPE Piping: 6,220 m of HDPE infrastructure piping.

Open Channels: 5,560 m of open surface water channels and 456 m of closed-section concrete channels.

Pipe Bridges: 213 tons of pipe bridge construction, pipe spooling, and installation works, including 370 m of precast panel escape routes.

Drainage: 10,000 m of drainage pipes and 5,000 m of open rainwater channel construction.

Notable Features:

Among the additional site preparation works at STAR Refinery, ES Denizcilik constructed 19 tank foundations, including the largest tank at the refinery (92 m in diameter, with a capacity of 140,000 tons of crude oil), the highest gabion wall (27.5 m), and the longest soil nail wall (24 m).

In a remarkable feat, 3,500,000 m³ of rock excavation and 1,000,000 m³ of fill were completed within a year using 25 excavators, 4 rippers, 2 bulldozers, 4 graders, 6 rollers, and 50 on-site transport trucks. During peak operations, 20,000 tons of fill material were transported daily from a quarry located 15 km away.
